99 Red Balloons is the Greatest Song

Except it's translated from German dreadfully. But of course, no matter where you go, what you find, how many minorities there are, it can always been converted into English for the white American person. Because we're just so damn incompetent and lazy. Let's take a look how we took the best war-era song and butchered it like a cow in the summer. [...in the summer, in the city. hot town, summer in the city]

Notice how some lines are changed to make things sound more 'extreme' and 'awesome' to make the 80's look better.
i.e. ; "a flying squad out there" becomes "the war machine, it springs to life" and they changed the part about jet planes to "super-high-tech jet fighters" It's accompanied by weird tech music, and later a rock version was released by Goldfinger.
Good job, American society: Your daily pressures to fit in and seem better than everyone else have put enough pressure for a Cold War-era song to turn into a pop hit for little screaming teenyboppers. Although, I'm sure those were your intentions in the first place.

Right on.

Comments

it wasn't for teeny boppers, the language barrier made it awkward sounding. they fixed it so it would sound more normal and lyrical in english.
